Succesful PeopleSoft upgrade for LUMC

Upgrade PeopleSoft FSCM application to version 49

The Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) is a leading hospital and research center in the Netherlands, located in Leiden. LUMC offers high-quality care and conducts advanced scientific research, with the aim of improving the medical care of tomorrow. The hospital is a center for patient care as well as for medical training and research activities.

Challenge:

LUMC is using the PeopleSoft FSCM application for a long time, but the version they were using was outdated and no longer met the latest technical requirements and needs of the organization. This led to performance issues and limited possibilities for integration with other systems. The hospital therefore looked for a solution to bring the application up-to-date and improve the functionalities.

Blis was asked to upgrade the PeopleSoft application to version 49, with the aim of a more efficient, more optimized work environment. The upgrade not only had to meet the latest technical requirements and also ensure a user-friendly experience for the employees. In addition, the upgrade was necessary to be fully supported by the supplier Oracle and to be up to date with the latest version.

Approach:

Blis took the lead in upgrading the PeopleSoft application to version 49. We started with a thorough analysis of the current environment, to identify any bottlenecks that needed to be addressed during the upgrade. We then planned the upgrade step by step, working closely with LUMC's Functional Management to ensure a smooth transition.

The upgrade focused on applying the new version of PeopleSoft, with customizations re-implemented unless replaced by new standard functionality within the application. When easily possible we also changed customizations to PeopleSoft standards like page configurator, …This minimized complexity and provided a standardized solution that was easier to manage and maintain.

What made our approach unique was the careful balance between the technical upgrade and the efficiency of the new version. We made sure that the solution was both robust and easy to use for the end users, resulting in an upgrade that seamlessly matched the needs of LUMC.

Results:

The upgrade to PeopleSoft version 49 was a success and was delivered within the agreed time. The main reason to install PUM 49 was to keep up to date and possibly implement new functionalities. This was also the result achieved.

In addition, LUMC can now count on full support from Oracle, which guarantees the continuity of their systems and enables them to easily implement future-oriented updates and expansions.

The collaboration between LUMC and BLIS shows how powerful an integrated project team can be. Working on side and spot on was the key Successfactor of this project.
